SUFFS

For my 70th birthday, a few months away, I went with my family of women to see the play SUFFS on Broadway, even Ella, who is not yet ten. It is a moment in history, when women acquired the right to vote, which I felt was important, especially during this historical juncture when women's rights are being taken away. I loved it (so did everyone), learned so much and was also inspired. These women fought for a woman's right be be treated as the equals that they are. They made Woodrow Wilson and Congress change the law, but it was not without a fight that included marches, rallies; hunger strikes and jail. They fought as the brave women they were and we all are--as women--brave and strong and not willing to be subjugated to a male's vision of what a woman should be. It made me feel we can fight again, to restore Roe V. Wade, equal pay--or any other fight which takes away our freedom.

There was a t-shirt being sold, based on a song, "Great American Bitch." Ella commented that I would wear that shirt, and now, as I think about it, I would. It is my fearlessness about my voice, and bravery I hope she, my daughters and all the young women in the world bring to the world: WE WILL FIGHT AND WE ARE NOT AFRAID.

HOPE AND JOE BIDEN'S PRESIDENCY

In the past few weeks, I have not been able to watch the news; in particular, MSNBC, the station I watch. This has all changed, since Joe Biden decided to bow out of the race. After his last debate performance, I had to agree--he is too old, too frail and though he has been a GREAT president, he is clearly no longer capable to run the oval office. I was disappointed in the Democratic party for not realizing this. The writing has been on the wall for months. Many months ago, Ezra Klein wrote a superb editorial for the TIMES where he said Biden should step down. The party did not protect us by pushing his presidency forward.

However, this has all changed, and this is exactly why he is a GREAT man, a human being, and will now go down as a hero. Even my more conservative friends have stated what he did was bold, courageous and a fully cognizant move: TRUP IS ABSOLUTELY UNFIT TO BE PRESIDENT. I know, half the country loves him; loves a strong man; someone who befriends dictators, who himself wants to be one--and will. With the support of the 2025 project, he will discard all of our laws and norms(re-doing lower level civil service jobs; a federal ban on abortion; no contraceptives; less money for families with children of disabilities; no to Gay marriage; trans rights; voting rights) and, above all else, permission for all crimes committed in office, since he will stack the courts with cronies who will allow him unbridled power, with no punishment whatsoever. The Supreme Court has already trashed the Jack Smith documents case. IS IT REALLY OKAY TO HAVE CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS IN YOUR BATHROOM AND BULLY, DEMEAN, AND COZY UP TO DICTATORS? AND IS IT OKAY TO CHALLENGE A LEGITIMATE ELECTION? AND PARDON INSURRECTIONISTS?

Joe Biden believes in public service and our country, and in handing over the baton to Kamala Harris, he has proven himself to be a powerful leader, a hero. She will make mincemeat out of Trump on the debate stand. By the way, Trump is the one who trashed the immigration bill, by telling his crew not to vote for it. So much for a saying it is the fault of the Democrats. Kamala; is bright, articulate, compassionate, an injection of hope in the unseen. She is smart and sassy and bold. She will do right by our country, and select a running mate who is smart, articulate and DOES NOT LIE, like J.D. Vance , who once called Trump Hitler.

Already, millions have been raised AND young, smart people are rallying. Joe Biden, the man who served with the first Black president, who elected the first Black supreme court justice, has now given us Kamala Harris, the prosecutor who will face the criminal--and hopefully WIN!!!!

It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world.....

when a former president is granted partial immunity from criminal cases. The Supreme Court, by granting 45 (I can no longer say his name!!) immunity from crimes committed while he served as president, has all but destroyed its legitimacy, This makes a mockery of the Supreme Court, already with the lowest approval rating, ever, but it also is a horrible assault on our Democracy. Legal scholars coast to coast never thought this could ever happen, since this move has systematically made the Supreme Court a legislative branch, something which was never intended. You might call this a Constitutional crisis, but I will call it something worse--the end of Democracy. The former president and future presidents (G-d help us if 45 is back in power) could execute one of his enemies--and he has stated he plans to--and walk away with ease. He is already walking away from the January 6th insurrection, the stolen documents case and already the NYC case has raised questions, and he was already found guilty.

He is guilty. He is a convicted felon. But the Supreme court and the goat-following public is making him something more--a king, a very grotesque king, who you had better not mess with. I grieve for this country.
